7 Thanksgiving table setting ideas

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and while the meal itself may be the focus, the decor is what really sets the mood. Luckily, it’s easy to give the dining room table a quick makeover to compliment this seasonal meal—here are some easy Thanksgiving table setting ideas for inspiration.

1. Repurpose a wreath

A super easy trick for making a table centrepiece? Use any fall-themed wreath and simply place a candle or festive dish in the middle. Alternatively, lay a leafy garland (real or faux) down the middle of the table and intersperse candles, pinecones, or fall foliage among the branches.

2. Get creative with pumpkins

It’s gourd season, and pumpkins can be used both as an ingredient for tasty recipes and as decor! Painting mini pumpkins in neutral colours adds trendy flair, or carve out a larger pumpkin to use as a vase for a lush fall bouquet. Just make sure to wash fresh pumpkins with soap and water first, and try using floral foam to help arrange your flowers.

3. Use autumnal dinnerware

It’s time to pull out the autumn-themed dishes. A beautiful fall tablescape calls for an earth-tone scheme, like rich terracotta, mustard yellow, burgundy, or even dark green. Themed serving dishes with leaf, harvest, or pumpkin patterns are also on-brand for Thanksgiving dinner.

4. Themed napkins

Find fall-coloured napkins to go with your dinnerware, and rustic patterns like gingham or plaid fit the tone. You can also get creative with DIY napkin holders crafted from nature-inspired materials like twine, twigs, berries, or colourful leaves.

5. When in doubt, plaid!

You can’t go wrong with plaid for your dinner table, whether it’s used for the tablecloth, runner, napkins, accent plates and dishes, or even to create place-setting cards out of plaid cards or paper.

6. Keep it simple with sunflowers

Brighten up the table in a snap with sunflowers. Trim the stems a quarter of an inch before placing them in a vase, and make sure they receive lots of sunlight. Sunflowers not your favourite? Other seasonal blooms include dahlias, chrysanthemums, and snapdragons.

7. Stick with traditional tones

While it’s tempting to modernize the table, rustic and traditional fall colours really can’t be beat for this holiday. Red, orange, and yellow sing the sounds of the autumn season.
